In the Tundra you don’t really need to disable the start-stop if you’re careful with your brake pressure. In a normal stop, I can keep the engine from shutting down. If I want the engine to shut off like at a long red light, I can press the brake pedal a bit harder and the engine will shut off.

It’s not. It even says in the owners manual that too frequent use of it can cause a damage to electrical components. On top of that, if it is freezing cold outside and you stop the engine then the engine cools down resulting in a higher mpg once you begin to move because it needs to heat up the engine to effective operating temperature, which is between 90C and 120C for the engine oil temp

Did mine too. Used a piece of 1/16” thick plastic. Worked like a charm. Probably took the government a few billion dollars of studies to make the car makers to add this start-stop thing and it is easily disabled with a little piece of plastic or a business card.

I own a 2022 Equinox Premier. I bought this cable on Amazon and it works perfectly. The reason that the ISG feature consumes more fuel than without it, is because it takes more fuel to restart the engine after every stop than the amount of fuel we potentially save by idling with the engine off. Without this feature activated, the driver is only turning on the engine at the beginning of each trip.

First thing is that there’s no rocket science to idle stop. When you don’t want the engine to shut off, just don’t push the pedal down all the way. It’s that simple. Second thing is idle stop is a good thing to have. We don’t need to idle our engines for 30 minutes a day (equals ~ 180 hours a year or 7.5 days).
