I also installed some car mod, NFSU2ExtraOptions, and I'm using the universal widescreen patcher. If it makes any difference, I installed the game onto an external hard drive. When I installed it, the mod seems to not effect the game at all? I'm pretty sure i patched the game correctly, but I just followed some guide and I'm not really sure.
